![]() ![]() ![]() Asafa Powell Shanice Watson, STAR writer Track and field star Asafa Powell is one of the first Jamaican celebrities to take on the popular 'Don't Judge Challenge' on social media. His video has racked up over 29,000 likes on his Instagram page. THE weekend STAR understands that the 'Don't Judge Challenge' is a body-positive campaign aimed at encouraging people to embrace their flaws. It involves people posting a two-part video of themselves online. In the first part of the video, people present themselves in an unattractive manner usually wearing intentionally overdone makeup, rotten teeth, and unkempt hair, among other things. In the second part, they place their hand over the camera for a split second and remove it to reveal a more attractive version of themselves. In the first part of his video, Asafa is seen smiling and exposing badly discoloured teeth, with a thick green line around his mouth. He also has a white cloth tied around his head with country music playing in the background. In the second part of his video, Asafa is seen shirtless, exposing his muscular physique and flexing his chest muscle with R&B song playing in the background. The video created a buzz on social media, especially among Asafa's female fans. On Facebook, Danielle Fisher wrote, "Why does he have to be so fine?" Another Facebook user, Debonaire Hibbert, wrote, "Is it hot in here or is that man making me feel hot .... Asafa Powell you fine." Despite the positive reception of Asafa's video, the 'Don't Judge Challenge' itself has been receiving backlash on the Internet with many calling it mean, ironic and pointless. On Twitter @enchantrxss wrote, "The 'Don't Judge Challenge' is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. You are mocking people." Meanwhile, on Tumblr, daydrheamin said, "if you did the 'Don't Judge Challenge' and drew on fake acne, a unibrow, freckles, or anything else, unfollow me. I don't need someone following me who thinks it's funny to dress up as someone's insecurity and label it as ugly." |
