LEROY BROWN, STAR Writer Five days of fierce competition between the top young players in Jamaica were seen at the Access All Jamaica 2015 Junior tournament, on the recently resurfaced Eric Bell Tennis Centre courts at Piccadilly Road in Kingston. Top honours in the boys' section went to 16-year old Hillel Academy student Brandon Tom, seeded number five at the start of the competition who was crowned champion, after disposing of three higher-seeded players. John Azar Jr won the 14-and-Under in a close match against New York-based Ryan McCook 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Cole McNair took home the trophy for boys 12 and Under by defeating John Chin 6-0, 6-3 and the 10-and-Under title went to Daniel Azar, who defeated Alex Bicknell 6-5, 6-2 in the finals. Thirteen-year-old, Emma Dibbs, from Immaculate High School, was crowned champion in the girls 18 and Under when her opponent Selena Blythe had to default. Earlier in the day, Blythe had a hard match in the 16-and-Under final against Jenna Harrision, who beat her 6-1, 6-3, and did not recover enough to play in the higher age-group final. Michaela Stephens won the 14-and-Under title by defeating Dibbs 6-3, 6-2 in that final. Moesha Fox won the 12-and-Under title with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Selena Bird, and Savannah Thomson took the 10-and-Under title, by defeating Bird 0-6, 6-1, (14-12). |
