Four men accused of beating a man severely and pouring rum and hot water on him had their bails extended until October 5 when they will reappear in the St Catherine Circuit Court.

Those charged are labourers Dennis Dunkley, Christopher McKoy, Steven Ricketts and Marlon Lewin, all of Buena Vista, St Catherine.

When the matter was mentioned on Monday, it was adjourned.

Allegations before the court are that on February 9, the complainant was reportedly at Ricketts' house. He was accused of stealing a gold chain valued at over $100,000, but denied it.

The four men are said to have beaten him, poured white rum, hot water and cowitch bush on his body.

He was then locked away until the following day, when he was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital in an unconscious state.

The accused reportedly told employees that the complainant was rescued from the streets.

As the complainant recovered, he related his ordeal to the police and following an investigation all four were charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

They have made numerous court appearances. The complainant has expressed frustration about the long wait for a trial.
