Champions league no walk in the park - Weatherley

Dr Dean Weatherley

LIVINGSTON SCOTT, STAR Writer

Montego Bay United's coach, Dr Dean Weatherley, says that he and the club will be going to school all over again, when they venture into the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League for the first time in their history.

The western Jamaica outfit qualified for the tournament after finishing third in the CFU Club championship.

The beaten Premier League finalist are drawn in Group H alongside DC United of USA and Arabe Unido of Panama and although they are stepping in uncharted water, Weatherley wants to see what the tournament has to offer for the club and for himself personally as a coach.

"This is is no walk in the park and based on what I have seen from the CFU round, football in general in Jamaica is a step behind," he continued.

"It's something that I will really relish. I am going there to even see where I am as a coach, to see how I really match up," Weatherley said.

"This is ...going into a new frontier. So I will prepare myself mentally and to see what is the deal, but there is no backing down now, the gates are open."

Mobay United play their first two games away from home. Their first match will be against Arabe Unido on August 6 at the Estadio Maracana in Panama.

They then face DC United at RFK Stadium in their second match on August 26.

They close off their fixture with home games against DC United on September 22 and Arabe Unido on October 22.

"We just have to prepare in a different way than when we are preparing for National League, but I think if we put ourselves together and play a very tactical game our chances are as good as any," Weatherley concluded.
