Bag placed on abducted child's head

A gardener accused of abducting a child was further remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Monday.

Charged with abduction, child stealing and assault occasioning bodily harm is Dwayne Williams.

He pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The court heard that on June 6, about 2:20 p.m., the child was on Barbican Road when a motor vehicle stopped at his feet.

Reports are that the child was allegedly abducted by the accused who grabbed him, threw him in the car and placed a scandal bag over his head, before driving away.

The court was told that he child was reportedly pushed and kicked out of the motor vehicle along Old Hope Road, St Andrew.

Yesterday, the mother of the child, who is believed to have ended a short relationship with the accused, told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that because of the incident her child had not gone to school out of fear.

She said, "He (accused) had an accomplice and a bag was placed over my son's head, so he doesn't know who it was."

"Well, we have him (accused) here so try not to stop the child from going to school or at least collect the notes for him," Pusey said.

Williams is set to appear again on July 6.
