Disc jock apologises to comedian

Quite Perry

A local radio disc-jockey has had to make a public apology following comments he made over the weekend about the sexuality of comedian and YouTube sensation Quite Perry.

On Saturday, DJ Pedro, who works with the Kingston-based Bess FM radio station, made a tweet accusing Perry of being a homosexual.

The tweet was removed, but not before word got to his employers, who issued a public apology via Twitter.

"This person does not represent the views of Bess FM. The comments this morning by one of our employees were offensive. There will be immediate disciplinary action taken. We do not support this behaviour at all. We sincerely apologise," the post read.

DJ Pedro himself also issued an apology, stating that his views were not shared by those with whom he is affiliated and he would seek to ensure that his behaviour would not be repeated.

Since Saturday, there has been speculation surrounding the action to be taken by the radio station, with rumours that DJ Pedro had been fired from the company.

However, when the STAR contacted Bess FM, a representative said Pedro was still employed to the company and that any other claims were rumours. They refused to state whether the DJ would remain employed to the company in the future, stating only that disciplinary action would be carried out.

When the STAR spoke to Quite Perry, he handled the situation with calm, stating that the whole thing came as a shock to him but had made no real impact.

"You know, I try not to focus on negativity, so it was neither here nor there, but he apologised, and that was a good move on his part and on the part of the company," he said.
