$32.7m to renovate, expand Morant Bay Health Centre

Minister of Health, DrFenton Ferguson broke ground for renovation and expansion of the Morant Bay Health Centre in St Thomas last Thursday. The project will cost $32.7 million.

"I am particularly happy that we have made the decision to move with eagerness to get this renovation and expansion work done at the Morant Bay Health Centre. The improved facility will come as a great benefit to the various communities that it serves such as Morant Bay, Lyssons, Retreat, Prospect, Dumfries, Spring Garden, Johnston Town and Wilmington," he said.

The renovation and expansion work will include electrical installation, walling and masonry, installation of finishes, carpentry, tiling, plumbing, painting, exterior works, installation of windows and doors and electrical installation.

Funding for this project is being provided through the European Union by the Sugar Transformation Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. DrFerguson indicated that the project is a part of the Primary Health Care Renewal Programme under which 129 health centres have already been completed.
