Regular trips to the sauna, meditation, yoga hardly sound like the usual preparations for a 300-pound international discus thrower.

World Championships-bound national discus record holder, Jason Morgan, has made a few changes to his approach, and though some may be unconventional, its hard to argue against their effectiveness.

Morgan, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, came from the edge of a frustration-driven retirement to medal at last year's event in Glasgow, before this year shattering the national record with a 68.19m throw, a mark that also makes him the best athlete in the event so far this year.

The 32-year-old one-time Calabar sprinter points to last year's success as the fuel behind his inspiration this season.

"Winning that Commonwealth medal was definitely a big motivation for me. I have changed some stuff in my technique and in my daily training, and it has been coming together, so I am really excited," he told STAR Sports.

"I have been doing more stretches, a lot more pool work and yoga. I was also advised to go in the sauna every now and again, and I have been doing that," added Morgan.

Morgan has already met the 65m qualification mark for the World Championships. He said his focus is continuing his preparation heading into the World Championships, adding that he does not feel the need to prove a point anymore.

"I have been taking it one day at a time, work hard, honestly, and trying to give it my best every time I step in the circle. It has been a lot of mental preparation as well, a lot more meditation and so on.

"I have one mission already accomplished, which was to break the national record. My aim now is to make another big throw when it really matters at the World Championships; that's the real focus," said Morgan.
