Death of witness gets accused murderer bail extension

Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

The St James man accused of killing his girlfriend and hiding her body under banana leaves in his yard last May, had his bail extended to August 19 in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Neville Thompson from Cambridge is charged with the murder of Simone Grossett. His bail was extended after the court was told that documentation was needed in relation to the death of a witness in the case.

Dispute

Allegations are that on May 2, 2014, Thompson and Grossett were at the accused man's home when they got into a dispute. Sometime afterwards, Thompson went to the police station and filed a missing person's report for Grossett.

However, the police, acting on information, searched Thompson's house and found Grossett's body with several stab wounds, hidden under banana leaves near a fowl coop. Thompson was subsequently arrested and charged.

The court was informed that further statements were needed for the prosecution's case file, as one of the prosecution witnesses has died.

Subsequently, Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie extended Thompson's bail.
