MOTHER, DAUGHTER CLASH IN COURT FOR WIG |

There was a moment of drama during the mention of the final case in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court yesterday after an accused woman, while in custody and standing in the dock, dragged a wig from off her mother's head. This resulted in the elderly woman leaving the courtroom with a ragged hair-do, unlike how she came to court, as her daughter refused to return it, claiming it belonged to her. The entire courtroom erupted in laughter the moment the wig was pulled from the woman's head and thrown to the floor as the accused, 36-year-old Kareen Daley, who is charged with wounding with intent, adamantly shouted: "I nah give her back; a my own. Bring back everything weh yuh have fi mi." Uncontrollable Prior to her dragging the wig from her mother's head, Daley's mother had asked Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey to assist her with the accused as she was uncontrollable. And she proved her mother right shortly after, dragging off the wig and refusing to return it, even after RM Pusey intervened and ordered that the wig be returned to her mother's head. But despite her antics, Daley sought to assure the court that she was not mentally ill as others may think, although on her first appearance on June 12, she was ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation. Daley is before the court as a result of an incident on April 26, when she allegedly stabbed the complainant over her right eye, on the left side of her neck and left hand, causing wounds. The complainant was admitted to hospital for three days. Daley told the court that she acted in self-defence after the complainant threw water in her face. She is to return to court on July 17. |
