UPS Foundation donates US$30,000 to Alpha Boys' School

The UPS Foundation hosted a grant-presentation event to donate US$30,000 to the Alpha Boys' School.

The organisation is a vocational training facility that provides educational opportunities for young men in the areas of agriculture, greenhouse farming, meat processing and catering, among others.

The UPS Foundation's grant will assist the St John Bosco Children's Home in Mandeville by improving the school's computer lab and lunch programme.

Company executives at the event included UPS Caribbean country manager, Pedro Capote; UPS Jamaica Country Manager, Rachel Matthews and UPS Americas Region Vice President of human resources and labour relations, Charnley Conway.

Representatives from the Alpha Institute, Sister Susan Frazer, (CEO), and public-relations director, Charles Arumaiselvam, also attended.

"It's a privilege to have joined St John Bosco and help build a stronger career-training programme for its students," said Capote.

"The UPS Foundation is proud to help empower local communities by supporting organisations that foster positive growth and development," he continued.

"With this donation, we will be providing our students with 30 new computers, designed to help them learn digital skills such as basic graphic design, which will better prepare them to enter for the workforce," said Sister Frazer.

"Additionally, we will equip the lab with Internet access to enable students to do research and access important information, and data, for their trade training."

This is the second donation awarded to the Alpha Boys' School. In October 2014, the UPS Foundation donated $20,000 to the organisation, which provided funding for the school's skills-training programmes.

Staff from UPS Jamaica have have also volunteered at Alpha Boys' School to paint and restore the organisation's facilities.
