Nine months' probation for punching neighbour

A man accused of assaulting his neighbour was given probation when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Oriel Walters, who pleaded guilty with explanation.

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, the accused man punched the male complainant in his face four times, causing him to sustain injuries to his left eye and nose.

The court heard that the dispute was about a water tank on a premises in which both parties reside.

Walters told the court that he overheard the complainant telling the landlord that he (Walters) was responsible for the disappearance of the tank, which he claims was a lie. Things reportedly became physical quickly after.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey sentenced Walters to nine months' probation.
