$6,000 fine

for taking car without owner's consent

A woman accused of driving away a motor vehicle without the owner's consent was ordered to compensate the complainant when she appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with driving away motor vehicle without owner's consent is 22-year-old Saskia Aarons of Waterloo Avenue, Kingston 10.

Allegations are that on May 28, about 2:30 p.m., the accused went to the home of the male complainant - a person she knew.

It is believed that the complainant went to take a brief nap but woke up to discover that a vehicle he drove for a taxi company was missing.

It was soon discovered that Aarons took the keys to the Nissan AD Wagon and removed the vehicle from the premises without the consent of the driver or owner.

It is reported that the vehicle was owned by a taxi company and equipped with a tracking device.

It was traced to a location in Rockfort in Kingston. Soon after, the security company, accompanied by the police, found the accused woman with the motor car, in the company of two women.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused woman to compensate the complainant in the sum of $6,000.
