Andre' Williams, STAR Writer An estranged wife has seemingly increased pressure on her husband, a clergyman, after child support payments of more than $900,000 have not been forthcoming. The couple has been entangled in a divorce and custody battle. THE WEEKEND STAR understands that the Kingston-based bishop was arrested on a warrant carried out by the West Kingston police. He has been granted bail in the sum of $870,000 with three sureties. Our news team gathered that the warrant exercise was not easily carried out. According to the estranged wife, the police were reluctant to apprehend the pastor. She also said the police 'sick-out' recently caused further delay. She told THE WEEKEND STAR, "The child support he was ordered to pay by the court is over $900,000. Right now, my son is in need of a pair of glasses and his graduation expense is $8,000 ... . The police finally went and arrested him after mounting pressure." The pastor had previously been ordered by a family court judge to hand over close to $1 million in maintenance and child support, dating back to 2009. THE WEEKEND STAR also understands that the bishop is being asked to make retroactive payments for the years 2010 to present, at $15,000 monthly. Meanwhile, In a previous interview with THE WEEKEND STAR the bishop denied owing child support and stated that several persons can attest that he supports his child. He also told THE WEEKEND STAR that he was the one who filed for divorce. |
