![]() I lost my mind yesterday. Well, in truth, I lost it years ago with this country going to hell in a hand basket, we the people, divided by tribal politics, never saw it prudent to come together and work towards a better future, choosing instead to continue to play the blame game that has got us nowhere. But yesterday I got really angry because of what I saw happening in Charleston, South Carolina, where nine black Americans were slaughtered by a bigoted, stupid white boy. I am also really peeved at how justice is meted out depending on race in that country just north of here. Dylann Roof is accused of taking the lives of nine people who were in church praying, accusing black people of raping and murdering his kind, reflecting the mantra of those in positions of power who continue to brainwash numbskulls like Roof, that black people are lazy rapists who live off welfare. Whether ignorant bigots like Roof want to believe it or not, the United States was built on the blood and sweat of millions of black men and women uprooted from the homeland in Africa and forced into slavery by white men who raped the women with impunity. Taking that into consideration, who really are the lazy rapists living off the welfare of others? Take ownership What is stark in this particular case and others that have involved white killers, is that after killing nine black people the police managed to take Roof alive. What would have been the likelihood that had Roof been black and the victims white, that he would have been alive and in custody today? President Barack Obama has skirted around the race issue for years, but he now needs to take ownership of this situation because under his presidency the racists, the white racists have exposed themselves and you know what, they are many. From the halls of Congress to the man on the street, the United States of America is chock-full of racists who would sooner impose genocide on anything not lily-white in a country they stole from the 'red' man. Meaningful way Just take notice of the language some Republicans use when referring to the president. One even called him a liar as he presented his State of the Union address a few years ago. He needs to address this issue in a meaningful way before he demits office. They have said his beautiful wife resembles a monkey and even attacked his kids. So if that is what the democratically elected president faces, imagine the common black man living in the USA. I have many relatives and friends living in the US and my greatest fear is that I will wake up one day and see on the news that they were victims of some murderous, ignorant idiot like Dylann Roof. Closer to home, I am beyond aggravated that Minister of Industry and Commerce, Anthony Hylton, still has a job. This US$5 billion investment by Krauck and Anchor Finance Group? US$5 billion, who is going to spend that kind of money in Jamaica? Seriously? What is the return on that investment in a country that is in debt to the tune of two trillion Jamaican dollars? Anyone with an IQ higher than 20 could see that this 'investment' was going nowhere. It was instructive that when he appeared in Parliament this week and being raked over the coals by the opposition, his party colleagues sat in stone-faced silence. My question again is: why does he still have a job? The bigger question is: why aren't we mad that he still has his job? Let me guess; the political divide? Send comments to levyl1@hotmail.com |
