Church deacon charged for sexually assaulting minor

A trial date was set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday in a case involving a church deacon accused of inappropriately making sexual advances to a child.

Sixty-six-year-old David Brooks is charged with indecent assault and sexual grooming.

He was ordered fingerprinted. Allegations are that after making occasional visits to Brooks' home a few years ago, a relationship developed between the accused, his wife and the child.

It is also alleged that during this time, Brooks made sexual advances on the child, touching her inappropriately.

Not-guilty plea

Brooks pleaded not guilty and will be tried on October 21. Disclosure is expected to be made in the case on June 30.

It is understood that church members are split on the matter, as some have sided with Brooks, while others support the child.
