Corporal charged with corruption remanded

A police corporal was yesterday arrested in a sting operation by members of the Major Organised Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Corruption (Prevention) Act.

Reports are that last Saturday, a gentleman who resides overseas visited the Rockfort Police Station and filed a Missing Person's Report.

He returned to the police station the next day to follow up on the investigation, when the Corporal, 38, allegedly solicited and accepted $14,000 from him in order to locate the missing person.

THE STAR gathered that yesterday, it is also alleged that the accused contacted the gentleman and solicited an additional $15,000.

A report was made to MOCA and a sting operation conducted, where the accused was searched and the money found on his person.

He was placed in custody pending further investigations.
