Rising Stars auditions take it to May Pen

"I believe we might find the winner here," was the sentiment of Digicel Rising Stars judge, Alaine Laughton, after the third audition, held in May Pen, Clarendon, recently.

"May Pen, so far, has delivered the best talent pool. I have been impressed with the performances, the voices and the presence that the people have shown," she said.

Rebecca Bissoon was among those who impressed the judges. Her rendition of Tessanne Chin's Hideway had the judges and fellow contestants giving her cheers of approval. A snippet of her audition has since exceeded 300 likes on Digicel's Instagram page with fans citing her as the next Digicel Rising Star.

Likewise, Brandon Chin received the stamp of approval. His seemingly shy aura took the backseat while he belted out Nick Jonas' Jealous. He was moved to tears when called by the judges to collect his ticket to the next round.

Higher calibre

Sharon Schroeter, producer, was happy with the talent at the auditions.

"The talent in May Pen was definitely of a higher calibre this year. We got a nice variety from the vocalists, as well as a few guitarists who really spiced things up. So I'm looking forward to see if they will make it to the live shows," she said.

Sunday, people from central Jamaica will have yet another chance to show what they are made of, with the auditions moving to Manchester High School, in Mandeville. From there it will be Portmore Heart Academy, St Catherine, June 13, and Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, St Andrew, on June 21.
