Famous Celia exposes singing talent

'Mr Universe' to help her get songs recorded

Following a series of viral videos that have been posted on Facebook, a pregnant and homeless woman who has received the moniker 'Famous Celia' from adoring viewers, has yet again caught the attention of the masses.

This time, it is for her undeniable talent of singing. The candid woman has captured even more users' hearts while gaining quite a bit more exposure.

'Famous Celia', who hails from Savanna-la-mar in Westmoreland, brought shock to many users of the social-media networking website when she was asked to sing by Ted 'Mr Universe' Brown, 32, who records the videos.

"What I'm planning to do is to meet with some people in town and get some people to record and so," Brown said. "That's a must. Mi nah leave her. She has that voice that captivates. The first time I kept my birthday party, she was the one who opened the show, and she mash up the show. She mash up di place man. That would help her, if mi put her pon record."

Brown recounted the conversation he had with 'Famous Celia' when he revealed to her that she was well-received and even praised by Facebook users as a result of her singing prowess.

"I haven't seen her in two days, and somebody brought me to Grange Hill and she was happy. She was asking if she is going to get the house and I told her that everybody is going to help her because of the videos," Brown said. "I spoke with her about the singing, and she said 'True True Mr Universe?' and I had to tell her don't worry; everybody is on board and is going to help her,"

Following the launch of a fundraising effort to help 'Famous Celia' with prenatal care throughout the course of her pregnancy, as well as to assist with purchasing items in anticipation of the newborn. the original target of $170,000 has not yet been reached, Brown said. Hardly fazed, he is still pressing on with intentions of providing shelter for Celia by June 21.

"A the marl me a try get in now, because mi supposed to get the marl from a man, but him a go round go round me, so mi about fi use my money out a my account," Brown explained. "But by the 21st of this month, the house must done and deh right on the spot. I met with the MP and he said he's going to give me a cheque for $30,000. The house is a must because I have that covered. People help me, and it have to done. It is my project."

Brown stated that he has received just under $50,000 in donations from people all over the world, but still aims to have the proposed structure completed and help her better prepare for the birth of the baby.

"I would want to more highlight and make the people dem know say we need a little more help," Brown explained. "I'm not gonna leave her side with the baby either, because I have to make sure every week she get her stuff dem - her pampers and so,"
