Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter A trial date was set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently, in the case of a woman accused of knowingly allowing her underage daughter to have sex with adults, while failing to ensure her attendance at school. Charged with failure to report to the Office of the children's Registry and failure to secure education for a child is Sophia James. She pleaded not guilty to both offences. Allegations are that James and her daughter have been living together, during which the daughter would make frequent trips to the house of a man, who is believed to be her adult boyfriend, to engage in sexual acts. It is alleged that James would knowingly allow the child to make such rendezvous. Additionally, it is alleged that the accused failed to send the child to school. The court heard that the Child Development Agency (CDA) made arrangements to have the child put in the care of her aunt. Resident Magistrate Maxine Ellis ordered the accused woman to return to court on July 13 for trial. |
