Fighting poverty

Dear Pastor,

The first step in fighting poverty is a shift in mentality. I can never forget about 18 years ago, I worked in a big organisation. I was also trying to make some money on the side, and so I needed a few flyers to be printed for a mail order business I was trying to start. I asked a young lady who worked in the company if she could photocopy a few of the flyers, about 20 or so. She worked in the print office of the company. She refused to do so on the grounds that she was a Christian and that I was trying to make money and making money was not something she supported.

She said if I wanted to print flyers for a church event she would have no problem in doing so. So you see, pastor, to her, making money is bad. How can she advance financially in life?

D.C

Dear D.C.,

There are many others like this young woman who are brainwashed into believing that Christians should not earn as much as they can to live a very comfortable life here on earth. They are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good. And I am afraid that they are many preachers who give their parishioners the impression that it is wrong to do anything to earn more than what they get from their employers.

I congratulate you for wanting to make much more than you were earning from your regular job. Jesus taught that men and women are blessed when they work hard and earn as much money as possible. Many godly men in the Old Testament were very wealthy. Nothing is wrong with wealth if it is gained honestly and by hard work and proper planning.
