Ex-lottery vendor on larceny charge ordered to repay

A former lottery vendor was given until July 23 to repay money to her past employer after the sum of $690,424 went missing from the business over time.

When the matter was called up Friday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, the accused, Marsha Downer, pleaded not guilty.

She is charged with larceny as a servant.

Allegations are that Downer, while employed to sell lottery tickets, is unable to account for the sum, which went missing under her watch.

According to the accused, she did not steal it.

She told the court that the money was owed to her and she had not been able to collect the outstanding amount.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told Downer, "Find some money carry come that day or you are going to stay with me."
