A man and his babymother involved in a case had their bails extended when they appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Thursday, following a lovers' spat, which turned physical.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm are Paul Levy and Nadine Griffiths. Levy pleaded guilty with explanation while Griffiths pleaded not guilty.

Levy appeared before the court wearing a cast on his right arm. He explained the cast was as a result of the injuries from the altercation with his babymother.

The court heard that the pair got into a heated dispute regarding their daughter, who Levy believed was not being cared for properly by her mother. Levy explained that the dispute developed shortly after Griffiths expressed her inability to amply care for the child, later requesting money.

"I came in from market the Saturday evening, and 10 minutes after, she tell me she don't have anything to give mi daughter," Levy began. "Then she have on the false fingernail and she jook at mi eye."

Levy said that Griffiths then charged and started raining blows on him. During the fracas, Levy said Griffiths flung a coconut that broke his finger.

In court, Resident Magistrate Maxine Ellis stated that Griffiths appeared to be the aggressor in the matter.

"She was the aggressor and not you. that's why I do not accept your plea of guilty," Ellis stated.

The sitting magistrate subsequently ordered the pair to return to court on June 30. A fingerprint order was made against them.
