The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has lifted the flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Mary, Portland, St Thomas and Kingston and St Andrew.

However, it says central and western parishes should still expect rains.

According to the Met Service, a tropical wave which has been causing the rains is moving away from Jamaica.

Some infrastructural damage has been reported in sections of St Andrew.

However, more rains and thunderstorms are in the forecast for central and western Jamaica as the trough is lingering west of Jamaica.

The trough is expected to continue affecting Jamaica until Wednesday.

Meanwhile, yesterday, June 1, marks the start of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

In April, head of the Met Service, Jeffery Spooner, said this season is projected to be one of the least active since the middle of the 20th century.

Spooner says for this year, seven named storms are expected, compared to the average of 12.

From those storms, three are expected to become hurricanes, of which one is expected to be major.

Last week, Local Government Minister, Noel Arscott, disclosed that Jamaica is not where it needs to be in terms of preparations.

He says while parish councils have some funds from which to conduct work such as drain cleaning, there is a broader financial problem.
