An unexpected Baptism |
|||||
![]() ![]() GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer When Shaunakay McDonald visited the Sanguinetti New Testament Church of God in Clarendon on the night of Sunday, May 17, she had no clue she would have been baptised. "I was just there to watch other persons being baptised. I had no clue I would have ended up being baptised myself. Something got a hold of me, and I had to surrender to the Lord and get my water baptism," said the new convert. She told THE STAR's Life & Times that she decided to take her eunuch baptism after words were uttered by Evangelist Marsha Daniels-Powell, who delivered the sermon before other candidates took their bold steps to the pool to be baptised by Bishop Donald Dawson, pastor for the church. "The preacher told the congregation that things in the world were not pretty, and that they are not all good. She said that when we come to church or give our hearts to the Lord, things will get difficult at times, but we have to make up our minds to serve the Lord, (if we want to) make Heaven our home when the Lord returns," said McDonald. She said that prior to her being baptised, she was nervous, and over the years when she was not walking with the Lord, her life was not all good. McDonald also shared that life for her was difficult. "During the time, certain things that I prayed for were not forth- coming. It was as if nothing was happening for me. However, since I got baptised, I have seen where things have started to change. Things that I have asked God for, I have seen where He has started to grant them unto me, "said the new convert. In an effort to stay with the Lord for the rest of her life, McDonald pledged to live a holy life, and said she would try to encourage others to do so before it is too late. She said she intends to give the Lord her all. For those who haven't started their Christian journey, McDonald is encouraging them to attend church regularly and start living a Christ-like life. McDonald was among the first set of new converts to be baptised at the Sanguinetti New Testament Church of God by the new shepherd of the flock, Bishop Donald Dawson, who has been at the helm since January.
