Guinness Street Football challenge near finale

The Guinness Street Football challenge is now one round away from the national finals.

The Kingston parish finals takes place tomorrow and Sunday at the Red Stripe Oval, 214 Spanish Town Road, St Andrew.

The Kingston leg has recorded the highest amount of entrants for the competition in comparison to the previous parish finals.

"We have received an overwhelming number of entrants for Kingston. So far, we have registered more than 400 teams and the number continues to grow. This will be our biggest parish registration to date, and it shows that Guinness Street Football Challenge is at the forefront of the community football conversation all over," said Acting Brand Manager of Guinness, Andrew Anguin.

Even though the number of entrants is constantly growing, not all of the teams will compete in the parish finals. From that number, only 256 teams will be chosen and drafted to compete in a penalty shoot-out tomorrow. From that set, the top 64 teams will move on to the main draw on Sunday.

Twenty-four teams have qualified so far from the previous parish final matches. Eight teams instead of four, from this Sunday's Kingston parish finals, will join the already-qualified teams to compete in the national finals match.

The winner of the Kingston parish finals will walk away with the parish title and $300,000 from Guinness, along with prizes from sponsors Gatorade and Digicel. The Golden Boot title and a cheque for $20,000, courtesy of Digicel, will also be up for grabs for the top goalscorer.

The Guinness Street Football Challenge, now in its fifth year, will culminate at its regional final on June 27 and 28 in which Jamaica's champion team will compete against Caribbean neighbours.
