Imprisoned for having Tomblin's phone

Damion Palmer, the man accused of receiving the phone of Jamaica Public Service (JPS) CEO, Kelly Tomblin, was sentenced to 30 months' imprisonment in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Alecia Smith, who was also charged with receiving stolen property, was free to go as no evidence was offered against her in the case.

The allegation surrounding the matter is that Tomblin was robbed of her Samsung Galaxy phone valued at approximately $95,000, with $200,000 in call credit, as she exited JPS' New Kingston head offices.

Police investigators said the phone was snatched from Tomblin by two men who escaped on a motorcycle.

In court, Palmer said he bought the phone on the evening of the incident, about 5:30 p.m, when he sold it to Smith sometime after 6 p,m.

However, it was revealed in court that Smith had a previous conviction of receiving stolen property.

The magistrate then told him, "Is not everything can be washed down to receiving. The assumption with reasonable probability is that you thief it or you know who thief it."

He was then sentenced to prison.
