Hampshire residents give senior's home facelift

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A visit to Hampshire district, outside of Riversdale, St Catherine, on Labour Day found scores of residents converging on the home of Adassa Morrison.

They occasion saw the decking, flooring and general facelift of her dwelling, which she had started in 1991.

It was a joint effort of the community and Member of Parliament Gregory Mair that made the dream a reality for the senior citizen.

Morrison revealed that it was a great feeling for her as she had found it otherwise impossible to complete the roof over her head.

Other projects included paving of the Bonnett Main Road, facelift of Bermaddy Primary School, Freedom Primary, Berwick Primary, plus painting and bushing.

Meanwhile, in Spanish Town, persons laboured on projects in Windsor Heights, Tryall Heights, Glades, Monk Street and others throughout Spanish Town.

Members of the Spanish Town Fire Station were happy to see the improvements at their station. The station can now accommodate four additional units, courtesy of an expansion conducted by fire personnel and the community.

The projects were endorsed by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, who visited Jamaica's 'old capital'.

Not even intermittent showers could dampen the spirits of those who dedicated their efforts to the day's activities.
