Former Reggae Boy Jermaine Hue has pulled the curtain down on his football career, his club Harbour View announced yesterday.

Hue, 37, has quit all football after 23 years with the Harbour View Football Club. The club's general manager, Clyde Jureidini, believes his 18 months substance abuse ban and the ensuing court case to have the ban overturned took its toll physically and mentally on the midfielder and greatly influenced the decision to end his playing career.

'Last Monday he (Hue) just said he was tired and he was not sure if he can come back because he is not feeling the motivation. I think that unfortunate substance abuse ban that took him out of the game for 18 months, tested his inspiration, his motivation and the love he has for the game," Jureidini said.

The Harbour View general manager said that those who had the privilege of watching the 'maestro' as he is popularly called will never forget his magical left foot and his contribution to the game locally and internationally, even though his international career was short and intermittent.

"He has left behind a strong legacy of how to pass the ball, how to control, how to use the ball accurately from dead balls, how to score goals, split defences, how to protect and possess the ball and play with flair and be effective. He left a legacy many youngsters can admire and emulate, high standards all can look up to," he commented.

"He is a true Harbour View great. I don't think another midfielder has passed through the club that has shown the amount of skill and ball artistry Hue did, and in terms of creativity he ranks amongst the best," he stated.

Hue is currently in the US and is aiming to further his coaching qualification while there.

Jurideini said a door is always open for him to return in another capacity at the east Kingston-based club.
