St Ann councillor given station bail |

RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer St Ann councillor Ian Bell, who was given station bail to appear in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court on traffic charges, walked free yesterday after no documents were brought to court. When the councillor, who represents the Beecher Town Division, appeared in court, his lawyer Oswest Senior-Smith made inquiries in the court and it was revealed that nothing was filed against Bell. Resident Magistrate Natalee Brooks then ordered that the Local Government representative be set free. Bell's appearance arose from a May 3, incident where the police claimed that he was spotted speeding along the Linstead Bypass. He was signalled to stop and on the approach of the police, he reportedly sped away. The police called for reinforcement and the councillor's vehicle was intercepted. He was reportedly taken to the Linstead police station and charged with disorderly conduct, disobeying the order of a constable, assault and altered registration plate. The Star has been informed by the
councillor's legal team that a report has been made to the Inspectorate of Constabulary. |
