Woman pleads not guilty to drug charges

A woman, who police said they found cocaine in her possession, almost 48 hours after being held in custody, was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last week to answer drug trafficking charges.

Charged with possession, dealing, importing and conspiracy to import cocaine is Annette Bent.

She pleaded not guilty on all counts. The court heard the prosecution is awaiting a report from a doctor, who conducted x-rays on the accused. She is suspected to have had bags of cocaine in her system.

Bent's attorney is contending that his client may have been charged under suspicious circumstances.

After being under observation for 48 hours and being put through excretion exercises, nothing was found but, during a third search, sometime after, the drug was found in her handbag.

The forensic report in the matter is not ready. The matter is set for mention on June 18.
