More than 70 of the nation's top tennis players will be engaged in the Hi-Lyte Sport Mixx Junior Tennis Championship set to start tomorrow and end on Sunday at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston.

The top and emerging tennis players will be vying for awards in the boys and girls categories - 10, 12 14 and 16 age groups.

"We want to thank Hi-Lyte Sport Mixx for once again coming on board in support of tennis in Jamaica. This is a very important tournament at this time, as the players are coming out in efforts to improve their respective rankings," Lockett McGregor, tournament director said at the launch yesterday morning at Liguanea Club court.

"This year, we expect over 70 kids and we are looking forward to a very competitive tournament, starting on Saturday (today)," McGregor outlined.

He also said, special attention must be placed on the Under-10 age group.

"We want to improve the 10-year-olds to help them keep interest in the sport, on order for growth and development," he emphasised.

Competitors

McGregor is expecting top players such as former Under-10 champion, Alyssa James, Kayla Stephenson and Gena Harris to compete in the girls' categories, while Johnny Azar and Daniel Hill are two of the nation's top boys who are registered to participate in the two-day tournament.

Meanwhile, Johnny Bailey, Hi-Lyte Sport Mixx brand sales and marketing manager says his company is committed to the development of sports here.

"Hi-Lyte is always here to help in the development of sports. We want to thank the officials, players and others for the hard work they put in," Bailey said.
