Pashon Minott, siblings pay tribute to father

CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer

Pashon Minott and siblings are hosting a weekly talent show at Youthman Promotions in honour of their late father, Sugar Minott. According to the artiste, the show is a part of the ongoing Sugar Minott Month celebrations.

"The best talents will get to record on our labels, which are the Minott Movement Productions and My Block Records. This involves me and my brothers Daniel Minott and Andrew Minott. This is not a competition where people enter to win a tangible prize. It's about helping youth, like Youthman Promotion, that Daddy started. A producer might be in the audience and discover a talent. Anything is possible. It's not only about deejays, it can even be a disc jock," she said.

The show is called Rip di Block and will be hosted at the Youthman Promotions HQ located at 1 Robert Crescent, Kingston 5 on Friday nights. Pashon Minott says young talents are faced with several difficulties and are very much in need of developmental support.

"They don't really have much help if they don't have a song out there or a name out there, producers don't look at you. We saw our father help youth over the years and we want to continue that movement, because it is for a good cause," she said.

Two days

The Sugar Minott Day Tribute Concert will be expanded to two days this year. On May 24, the Minotts will host the annual performance-driven stage show, which will feature several dancehall and reggae acts.

The following day will see them paying homage to sound system culture and will feature musical displays from iconic selector Ricky Trooper and Caveman Sound.

Minott Movement Productions is promoting the Fever rhythm compilation, which features Dazzling by Destiny Minott, Swag J, among others. The Rip di Block series will feature guest selectors each week.
