Capleton to blaze a fire at Caymanas

"More fire," will be the cry at Caymanas Park on Saturday when one of Jamaica's biggest reggae and dancehall stars, Capleton, takes the stage for the McKay Security Entertainment Live Series.

"I have never performed there before and I am looking forward to it. The people know what to expect when Capleton comes, a lot of energy," said the artiste credited with keeping the cultural fire burning in dancehall.

Capleton's confirmation for the series follows last month's sizzling performance from another leading reggae-dancehall act, Sizzla Kalonji.

Using the moniker King Shango, Capleton comes armed with hits including Jah Jah City, Raggy Road, Slew Dem, Dis the Trinity and Tour, one of dancehall's biggest-ever crossover songs, which landed him a contract with Russell Simmons' Def Jam Recordings.

"We always bring it and make the fans a part of the performance as well," he told THE WEEKEND STAR. "We want the people to come out in their tens of thousands," he said when told of the crowds Sizzla and Gully Bop had brought to the racetrack.

Jason McKay, chief executive officer, McKay Security, said getting Capleton was a major coup as the artiste had only recently returned to Sting last year.

"The purpose of the series is to increase sales at the racetrack, which can only be done by enticing people who would not have been there under normal circumstances. A name like Capleton is bound to have that effect, just like all the other big names did before," McKay pointed out. "Being there and seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of regular patrons, the new patrons are bound to bet."

Meanwhile, Capleton has promised "a great show". "The Fireman is all about the fire, bringing the message and defending the people. I am definitely up and ready. I know it's gonna be a great show," he said, pointing out that his last performance in Portmore, Sting 2014, should be a marker.

"I took Sting. That was the performance of the year, never a dull moment. I hadn't done Sting in like six or seven years, so Caymanas Park better watch out for the Fireman," he said.
