Lady Action wins Unique Star Talent Contest |

|
p>Going by the moniker Lady Action, female deejay Valerie Coombs, 40, romped to victory in the second round of the Unique Star Talent Contest recently.
Held at Unique Car Wash in Breadnut Hill, Ocho Rios, St Ann, the second elimination round attracted a larger audience and a bigger field of hopefuls than the first, held in March. A graphics artist by profession, Coombs delivered her self-penned Nah Support Lick aimed at men who beat women. Speaking after she won, she said, " I am very surprised at the crowd response." Successful Looking towards the December grand finals, Combs said if successful in winning the $250,000 recording contract, she would seriously think of pursuing a career in music. Coombs scored big on the judge's score sheet in crowd response and voice control. She took home the $7,000 first prize for the round. The $3,000 second prize went to veteran deejay Bubbles Man. A fixture of many talent contests, Bubbles Man, born Barrington Allen, revealed that this was the first time he was winning something. A staple of the now defunct Tastee Talent Contest, where he reached the top 10 twice, Bubbles Man was easily the most outstanding performer, scoring heavily in stage presentation. His Big Up Jamaica was well received and he is eagerly awaiting the December 18 grand finals. Special mention should be made of Junior Tiger, an amazing Tiger sound-alike, as his song Bus Stop just failed to take him into the top two. Also scoring well were deejays Sasha with her song Crazy and Fire Blade, with Anywhere We Step on a night dominated by DJs. MC was Tony G and music was
provided by Black Rock. |
