USA beat Bolt - Ryan Bailey |
|||||
![]() The United States' Ryan Bailey celebrates their win, while Jamaica's Usain Bolt reacts as they cross the finish line in the final of the men's 4x100m at the World Relays in The Bahamas on Saturday night. The USA won in a championship-best 37.38, with Jamaica second in 37.68. SHAYNE FAIRMAN, STAR Writer American Ryan Bailey is not claiming sole responsibility for the USA's win over Jamaica in the 4x100m at last weekend's World Relays. It could be viewed as the race of any top sprinter's life, but the sprinter, who anchored team USA to victory, notes that the win means more for his country than for him. "I didn't beat Bolt. Team USA beat team Jamaica," he told STAR Sports in an interview. For the USA, that victory was years in coming, yet it is what they hope is the start of a change in global sprint dominance. "We haven't beaten Jamaica in the last seven or eight years, so for us to finally win, it felt like a "major championship meet", where we are finally coming back to where we used to be," he continued. "I am feeling pretty optimistic about our team for the next couple of years," Bailey warned. Nothing personal The United States versus Jamaica sprint battle is easily the toast of the athletics world. Bailey notes that his celebratory jab at the legendary Jamaican, was "nothing personal". "It was nothing personal at all. me and Bolt, we are friends. I just poke a little fun. nothing personal was meant by it at all," he reasoned. "I think it was definitely misunderstood and taken the wrong way. it was just for fun," stressed Bailey. |
