Beach volleyballers win Olympic qualifying opener

Jamaican male beach volleyball pairs of Mark Lewis and Ryck Webb and Christopher Walters and Donovan (Larry) Richards (Team B) started their first-round 2016 Olympic Qualifier on a winning note as play got on the way in Trinidad yesterday.

Walters and Richards lost the first set 17-21 to the Suriname A team but rebounded to win the second set 21-19 and the decider 15-9.

Lewis and Webb then made light work of the Suriname B team, winning in straight sets, 21-12; 21-8.

The Jamaicans are due to face Aruba in their second game.
