Their interactions border confrontational on a weekly basis, but Magnum Kings and Queens finalists Lava Vein and Devin Di Dakta have been friends from as early as grade six.

Both 19, the two deejays appeared to have had near-physical encounters on the show, with Lava Vein referring to Devin as 'docta fish' on numerous occasions. On screen, the two also seem to be the biggest of enemies.

However, it is quite the opposite, as they have been friends since their early days in grade six at Highgate Primary. They also attended St Mary High School together, and also had a friendship that was sometimes kept together by their mutual love for music.

"That's why we became friends in high school. We did music together," Lava Vein told THE STAR.

"We used to entertain the school, like the deejays in the school."

Although Lava Vein went on to attend sixth form at St Mary High and Devin didn't, they still maintained a friendship.

Lava Vein explained that he had decided to enter Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall when Devin told him that he was also going to enter.

"At first, it was quite easy (being in the competition) because we weren't in the same castle," he said.

And, as the competition grew, he said they both developed their own fanbase, so they both had their own supporters.

Lava Vein even joked that many persons actually think he has a real feud with Devin.

"They think it's real. They don't understand the entertainment," he told THE STAR.

Never mind the friendship and the entertainment they bring each week, Lava Vein said he still has his eyes on the ultimate prize of being crowned the Magnum king, and plans to be victorious in the lyrical face-off tonight at the Waterfront in downtown Kingston.

"I'm going to scale him and throw him back into the sea, so his fans can prepare his burial on the beach," he said.
