The St James police have indicated that there are no motives yet surrounding the death of former Portmore Empire affiliate, Derrick 'Corey' Edwards, a leading member of the Merital Family, based in Montego Bay.

THE STAR understands that at about 12:30am (Friday) yesterday in Iron Shore in the parish, unknown assailants pounced on the now-deceased, who, reports suggest, was walking to his car, and opened fire.

He was shot at least three times in the head and died on the spot.

Edwards, 32, is from Providence in Flankers.

The Coral Gardens police are investigating.

Our news team gathered from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) that investigations are ongoing as the police seek to establish a motive.

The former Portmore Empire member and his Merital Family team rose to prominence with their chart-topping single, My Money, Haha featuring Vybz Kartel.

Several former affiliates of the Vyz Kartel- led Portmore Empire have publicly condemned the killing, namely Jah Vinchi, Lisa Hyper and Gaza Slim.
