A 21-year-old woman accused of stabbing her younger boyfriend appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday

Charged with wounding with intent is Avril Lake.

Allegations are that on the day of the incident, Lake and her 18-year-old boyfriend got into a dispute regarding relationship matters. It is alleged that the accused used a knife to stab the man several times all over his body. The complainant showed up in court with a number of bandages to his right elbow, left hand and head.

Lake said that her boyfriend often physically abused her, which resulted in her retaliation.

"You beat her up all the time? You see how she fix you though? Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said to the complainant. "You still love her?"

"Not anymore," the complainant replied, much to the delight of the gallery.

"So all the time you beating her, the love wasn't supposed to finish?" RM Pusey said. "From you raise the hand the love finish."

Subsequently, the accused woman had her bail extended. RM Pusey ordered that the matter be referred to a probation officer for the estranged couple to receive counselling. They return to court on July 2.
