Producer/selector Delano Thomas was recently honoured by The American Society of Composers, Authors And Publishers (ASCAP), at the annual award show in Hollywood.

Delano, who attended the show, told The weekend STAR he rubbed shoulders with writers of songs such as Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball, Iggy Azalea's Fancy, Taylor Swift's Shake It Off and Ariana Grande's Problem.

"The event was overwhelming. We got red-carpet treatment, and media from all over the world interviewed us. It was very official. They called us up onstage and we went to collect our award," Delano said. He used the opportunity to make connections with other internationally respected writers.

"We made some connections and I am hoping to do some work with some of the people we met.

"At this point, I am waiting to see if the connections really stick. Many were amazed to know that we are from Jamaica and were actually asking us about reggae and dancehall. That shows our music is still respected internationally," he said.

The award follows the success of the single 2 On, which features a sample of Sean Paul's We Be Burning, a song produced and co-arranged by Delano.

2 On, recorded by American singer-songwriter Tinashe for her debut album, Aquarius, was released in 2003.

The song, which features a rap verse from American rapper Schoolboy Q, also features work from Tinashe, Schoolboy Q, Bobby Brackins, DJ Mustard, Jon Redwine and Marley Waters.

We Be Burning features work from Cezar Cunningham, Sean Paul, Steven Marsden, Delano Thomas, Michael Jarrett and recording artiste/producer Craig 'Serani' Marsh.

2 On achieved worldwide commercial success, peaking at number 24 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and being certified platinum by the RIAA.

The song appeared on commercial charts around the world, including Australia, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Delano is the first Jamaican disc jockey to have won an ASCAP award.
