ANDRé LOWE, Special Project Editor - Sports Maurice Wilson, technical leader of Jamaica's team here in Bahamas for the IAAF World Relays, says that the team will be looking to better last year's 41 points, second-place finish when competition gets underway at the Thomas A Robinson Stadium today. Wilson, who along with head coach Michael Clarke, Bert Cameron, Paul Francis, and Jermaine Shand, will be leading the team's efforts, is happy with the composition of the team, despite the last-minute withdrawal of several University of Technology/MVP Track Club athletes. "I think we have done a good job in putting together the best team out there to represent our country. It's unfortunate about the withdrawals, but we have to move on. I think we have a good blend of experience and youth that will represent the country at the highest level," said Wilson. "The objective is to do better. We always try to supersede whatever we've done before," Wilson said ahead of yesterday's training session. "From my point of view, the team is going to do very well, especially in the 4x400 metre relays for both men and women." "I'm not going got make any predictions, but I think that average age of this team is about 23 years old, so it's a good start, and this is the platform from which we are going to see greater success to come," he added. Wilson noted that the World relays presents a pretty good opportunity for less-experienced athletes to make a name for themselves on the international scene. The Jamaicans get their campaign underway today at 6 p.m. (Jamaica time) with the heats of the men's 4x400m.
