Men arrested after cops make massive seizure Rasbert Turner, Star Writer Two St Catherine men who were allegedly held with $1.6 million worth of Red Bull energy drinks were granted bail in the sum of $150,000 each in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. Lloyd Cohen and Calvin Campbell, both of Spanish Town, St Catherine, are charged with unlawful possession of property after police seized the energy drink from a minivan which the men were allegedly loading. When the matter was mentioned before Resident Magistrate Anmarie Nembhard, the men were offered bail after successful applications by attorneys-at-law Earl Hamilton and Everton Dewar. The court was told that the men were charged by the police, and that unlawful possession of property had not been made out against them. Bail was granted on condition that they surrender their travel documents and reappear on July 28. Allegations are that on Thursday, April 23, police personnel from the St Catherine Proactive Investigative Unit, acting on information, went to French Street where they saw a Toyota Hiace being loaded with cases of Red Bull. The men ran, leaving Cohen, the vehicle's owner, and he was taken in custody by the police. receipt It is revealed that Campbell turned up at the station later with a receipt that he owned the goods. The police examined the receipt and claimed it was fictitious. A further investigation was conducted, and both men were charged by Corporal Uwain Robinson. |
