RAYMOND GRAHAM, STAR Writer Edwin Allen High's Saqkuine Cameron played significant roles in her team's winning the Championships of America 4x100 and 4x400 metres Penn Relays titles last weekend. Cameron, who ran the third leg on the 4x100m team, and who ran the anchor leg on the 4x400m team where she clocked 53.88 seconds for the fastest split among high school female athletes was named MVP for Relays by the Organising Committee. Cameron, who also ran on both teams that won the year before, stated that the wins this time meant more to her. "This was my final year competing for Edwin Allen and I wanted to leave in fine style, and I also wanted to redeem myself after my disappointment at Girl's Champs," said Cameron. At the 2015 ISSA Boy's and Girl's Championships, Cameron was in tears after being disqualified in the Class One 100m. "That affected me so much for the remainder of the meet as I thought I had let my team down and I wanted to make up for that and I vowed that I would have done so at Penns," she said. Despite running with her team-mates in the 4x100m for the first time, Cameron stated that this was no problem for her. "These girls have been running for a long time together as a relay unit, and I knew that with my experience in the team, this would have been a big lift for them as they see me as the mother of the team," said Cameron. "Running the third leg was a plus for the team as I know that I could have made up on any early error, so to give Shellece (Clarke) the baton in a good position, as once she gets it ahead or close to anyone, she would take it home," Cameron stated.
