Smith happy for Henry's return

Coach of Jamaica Women, Cleon Smith, has expressed satisfaction at the recall of teenage batsman Chinelle Henry to the West Indies Women squad for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The 19-year-old Henry, widely regarded one of the best young talent across the region, last represented the West Indies at the ICC World Twenty20 in India early last year. She was, however, dropped from the team after playing one match and subsequently missed New Zealand tour of the Caribbean last summer, as well as the regional side's tour of Australia last fall.

"I believe it's long overdue," stated Smith. "We were wondering, in fact, what had caused her to lose her place initially.

"She did better than most of the girls during last summer's regional women's tournament," he said. Henry, having made her international Twenty20 debut in late 2013 at the age of 17, has since gone on to play four games in the format, and two one-day internationals (ODI).

In Twenty20s, she has scores of 12, three not out, one and two, while in ODIs, her totals read 10 and zero.

The St Ann native and York Castle High alumni was outstanding the at West Indies Cricket Board Women's championship last August, helping Jamaica to the tile on the back of scores such as 85 and 55 not out.

"I am happy that she is back, and hope that she will continue to do well, or even better, this time for the West Indies," said Smith.

The West Indies are scheduled to play four one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals while on tour of Sri Lanka.

The last three of ODIs will count towards the multi-year ICC Women's Championship, which bowled off last August.
