Rasbert Turner, Star Writer There was suppressed laughter in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court when a man pleaded guilty to beating another who had labeled him a gunman. Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Leroy Jones of Old Harbour, St Catherine. When the case was mentioned, Jones plead guilty with explanation. "Your honour, me beat him afta mi realise dat him tell mi a dangerous lie. Him tell mi dat we were going to have a drink, but him did tell di people him a go fi him gunman friend," Jones said. He told the court that while going to the bar, he heard persons saying, "him a come wid di gunman", which frightened him. Jones said he was told the complainant had a dispute with a patron at the bar earlier. Reappear Resident Magistrate Horace Mitchell told him to reappear on May 28 for sentencing. Allegations are that, on March 30, the complainant lured the accused to a bar to 'have a drink'. However, it turned out that there was another reason. An investigation was launched, which resulted in Jones's arrest. |
