All Stars FC were crowned parish champions for St James on Sunday, after defeating Redemption Youths 1-0 in an intense final in the Guinness Street Football Challenge at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

The first-half goal came after a defence-splitting pass from Damion James to goalscorer Asun Morris who made a darting run from the back and easily made good on the delightful pass.

"I'm really happy about the win. I have been playing football now for years and to finally win a competition and benefit financially is really good," said Morris. "Our game plan going into the final was to make use of our chances and avoid conceding any goals and we just stuck to that and it paid off."

Earlier in the game, the All Stars captain, Anthoney Brown, could have placed his team ahead, but only managed to connect with the upright twice. In the dying stages of the game Redemption Youths threw caution to the wind and went on full assault, throwing every man forward but All Stars held them at bay for the win.

The champions pocketed $200,000 in a competition that saw 32 teams taking part and a total of 52 goals being scored.

The competition moves to St Mary on May 10. Jamaica will also host the Caribbean finals later this year on June 28-29. Trinidad and Tobago are the defending champions.

All Stars FC, Redemption Youths and the other semi-finalists, The Mob and Hornets Masters, will advance to the national finals on June 14 in Kingston, joining parish champions from St Catherine, Westmoreland, St Elizabeth and Portland.
