The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is now probing the shooting death of a man by the police in downtown Kingston yesterday.

Senior public relations officer at INDECOM, Kahmille Reid, said the man attempted to flee a shooting incident and ran into the police, whom he allegedly challenged. He was killed.

THE STAR gathered that both men, who are reportedly from opposing gangs, have been at odds for sometime and yesterday's clash in downtown Kingston was as a result of the heightened feud which exists.

Commute in West Parade was disrupted yesterday afternoon after a student and another individual were shot and injured by a man.

According to eyewitnesses, a man began firing shots which struck a student. The student was injured in the back, and was assisted to hospital by the police. Another individual, who was also shot and injured, was taken to hospital.

The police's corporate communications unit also confirmed that two persons were reportedly killed.

Police on the scene would not comment, however, other eyewitnesses said the shootings happened in plain view of commuters.

A firearm was also recovered during the incident.
