A video depicting the brutal beating of a man - who is alleged to have attempted to steal a woman's handbag - is making its rounds on several social media websites.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that sometime last Monday, the man reportedly attempted to snatch the bag belonging to the woman. The incident is believed to have taken a place on Chancery Street, Kingston 19, more popular known as 'Price Rite'.

The tape shows scenes of the man, believed to be the alleged would-be thief, clad in what appears to be a soiled pair of blue jeans and a red t-shirt. The video opens with the man lying on the ground as an angry mob descended.

The man was assaulted by numerous persons as bystanders observed the spectacle. Some hurled rocks while others lambasted the injured man. The man is observed in the video as mostly unresponsive, presumably as a result of receiving the beating. As a crowd gathered, several others proceeded to assault the alleged would-be thief kicking him repeatedly.

Confirming that they are aware of the incident, the Constant Spring police told The Star that they are investigating the matter.

"We don't have all the information on that right now. A detective has gone to the hospital to check," an officer said.
