Man charged for alleged bogus licence

A man accused of having a bogus driver's licence was sentenced when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday.

Charged with conspiracy to defraud and uttering forged documents is Michael Thompson.

The Crown alleges that Thompson, who was checked by the police during a routine traffic stop, presented a bogus driver's licence.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey probed the matter.

"I never know it was fraud," Thompson said.

"Where you got it from?" RM Pusey asked.

The accused man explained that he had gone to apply for a learner's licence, when a man approached him and asked him if he would be interested in purchasing the bogus driver's licence.

Subsequently, the sitting magistrate fined Thompson $40,000 or six months for conspiracy and $30,000 or six months for uttering. A fingerprint order was also made.
